Sumter County Blooms

Welcome to the Blooming Blog of the Sumter County Wildflower Society! Sumter is a largely rural county in the Coastal Plain of west-central Alabama. The University of West Alabama is located in the county seat of Livingston.

Over the coming year we hope to document the blooming periods of garden and wildflowers in Sumter County. Participants will be asked on a weekly basis to provide information on what flowers are blooming in their own yards, or on other plots of land that they visit regularly. Send us your photos for posting here.

Our first entry is a Quince blooming at Quietude on Bluffport Road, photographed by Larry Herr on January 13. Considering that the temperature was only 13 degrees Fahrenheit at dawn, that is one hardy Quince.
